What is DexaFit KC? +
DexaFit KC is a locally owned and operated health testing facility in Olathe, Kansas, and an affiliate of DexaFit, Inc., which has provided lab-grade health and wellness testing since 2011. We opened in January 2018 and have tested thousands of clients across the Kansas City metro, including Overland Park, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, and greater Johnson County.
Do only athletes book at DexaFit KC? +
No. While competitive athletes use our data to fine-tune training, most of our clients are everyday people just starting a fitness journey or wanting to track their health over time. If you're unsure which service fits your goals, take our 60-second quiz or call us.
What are your hours? +
We're appointment-only, seven days a week, so we don't staff a receptionist or publish fixed hours — booking ahead gives you time to review prep protocols and complete paperwork. Weekday booking windows generally start at 8:00 AM, and early appointments (especially on weekends) tend to book quickly due to fasting protocols. Use our online booking tool to see real-time availability. We're closed most major holidays.
Where are you located? +
We're at 14008 W. 135th Street in Olathe, Kansas, between Pflumm and Black Bob roads, directly across 135th Street from Menards and Academy Sports. From I-35, take the Santa Fe/135th Street exit; from the east, exit directly onto 135th Street. Free parking is available right in front of our building. Full directions on our Contact page.
What services do you offer? +
Our core services are the DEXA scan for body composition, VO2 Max for cardio fitness and heart rate zones, and RMR for caloric needs. We also offer an Advanced Arterial Assessment, Styku™ 3D scans, and personal training consultations through our partners. See Pricing for full details.
Is DEXA (DXA) scanning safe? +
DEXA uses low-dose x-ray technology to separate fat, lean tissue, and bone. It's traditionally used for bone density exams and is considered the gold standard for body composition. Radiation exposure is roughly equivalent to eating four bananas or taking a cross-country flight. Pregnant women, or those trying to become pregnant, should not receive a DEXA scan. What does DEXA/DXA stand for? +
DEXA (or DXA) stands for dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Both terms refer to the same equipment; it's traditionally used for bone density exams, and we use it specifically for body composition analysis.
My wearable's VO2 Max number is higher than my test result. Why? +
Wearables estimate VO2 Max using heart rate algorithms. Our test measures it directly with breath-by-breath metabolic analysis on calibrated, medical-grade equipment — and it's normal for the measured number to come in lower than a wearable's prediction. VO2 Max is thought to be roughly 50% genetic and 50% trainable.
How often should I retest? +
Maintainers — already at their goals and monitoring body composition over time — typically retest annually after an initial baseline. GoalSetters — actively training for an event or working to lose fat/gain muscle — typically follow up every 12–24 weeks. Either way, start with a baseline scan so future results have something to compare against.
What should I do before my test? +
Preparation varies by test — DEXA has clothing and metal guidelines, RMR and VO2 Max both require fasting windows. See our full Test Prep Protocols page for exact instructions per service, and complete any intake forms sent to you ahead of your visit.
How do I access my results? +
Download the DexaFit ai app (iOS or Android) before your visit and create an account using the same email you use for testing at DexaFit KC — verify your account before your first login. Results typically upload within 24 hours. If data appears to be missing, log out and back in; if it still doesn't appear, contact us to resend it. Note the DexaFit ai app is managed by DexaFit corporate, separate from our booking system.
How much do your services cost? +
See our full Pricing page for single services, bundles, and membership programs. New clients receive a free Styku 3D scan ($35 value) with their first booking.
Do you accept insurance? +
No, we don't bill insurance. We accept HSA and FSA cards (most testing services are eligible — check with your provider), all major credit cards, and Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. We don't accept checks.
What should I expect when booking? +
A credit card may be required to hold your appointment, but in most cases you aren't charged until after your service is complete. Each service is a 30-minute appointment — plan for about 90 minutes if booking DXA, VO2, and RMR the same day. If booking for another person, you'll need to complete the booking process separately for each individual.
What is your cancellation policy? +
Online cancellations close 48 hours before your appointment — after that, please call us directly. Online rescheduling closes 24 hours prior. Late cancellations (same day) and no-shows may be charged a $25 fee, since that time could otherwise have gone to another client.
I'm having trouble booking through Vagaro — help? +
We use Vagaro as our booking platform. If Vagaro says you already have an account, you may have an account from visiting a different Vagaro business — try resetting your password rather than creating a new one. Unfortunately, we're unable to edit pre-existing profile emails or phone numbers on Vagaro's end. If you're stuck, call or text us at (913) 444-3141 and we'll help directly.
Do you provide medical advice or diagnoses? +
No. DexaFit KC does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have questions about your results, please consult your primary care physician or another qualified medical professional.
What's your refund and expiration policy? +
Once a service is completed and purchased, we don't offer refunds or free retests — please follow prep protocols closely, as retesting due to improper prep is at your own cost. Unused, purchased services and packages expire 12 months from the date of purchase. All pricing is subject to change.
What are your cleaning and illness protocols? +
We clean, sterilize, and disinfect equipment between every appointment per manufacturer guidance, space out appointments to allow cleaning time, and provide hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility. We generally work with one client (or a couple/friends testing together) at a time. If you're feeling sick, please stay home and notify us to reschedule — no-show fees may otherwise apply.
