Test Prep

Prepare properly, get accurate results

Each test has its own preparation requirements. Following them closely is the single biggest factor in getting an accurate reading. We can't guarantee results, or offer a free retest, if protocols weren't followed.

DEXA Body Composition

No fasting required

Cannot be pregnant, over ~350 lbs, or have had a GI contrast/radionuclide procedure within 7 days.

  • Skip an intense workout the same day (80%+ max HR for 12+ minutes triggers afterburn/EPOC, which can affect readings for up to 48 hours).
  • Drink normal amounts of water; no special hydration protocol needed.
  • No fasting required, but avoid a large meal 1–2 hours prior.
  • Wear workout or casual clothing with minimal metal; small zippers/rivets are fine.
  • Empty your pockets and remove watches, belts, glasses, and jewelry before scanning.
  • Remove your shoes; socks are fine.

For clients around 250 lbs+, a left-arm or visceral fat reading can't always be guaranteed due to scanner limitations.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)

Fasting required

Fast for 5–6 hours minimum before your test, water only. Most people fast overnight and book an early appointment.

  • No intense exercise within 24 hours prior; afterburn can elevate your metabolism for up to 48 hours.
  • No caffeine, other stimulants, depressants, or smoking on the day of your test.
  • Workout, casual, or business clothing is fine; you'll simply relax in a chair.
  • Get a normal night's sleep beforehand.

VO2 Max

Fasting recommended

Obtain medical clearance before this test, especially with a heart condition, joint issues, or relevant medications, since this is a maximal-effort treadmill test.

  • Avoid a large meal a few hours before testing; arrive fasted for best results (at least 3 hours).
  • If also booking RMR same day, fast the required 5–6 hours for that test instead.
  • No exercise the day of your test; come in with fresh legs.
  • Skip caffeine and stimulants on test day.
  • Wear (or bring) workout clothes and athletic shoes.

Advanced Arterial Assessment

One simple rule

Please avoid caffeine before this test; it can affect blood pressure readings.

No other special preparation is required. The assessment is quick, seated, and non-invasive.

Styku™ 3D Scan

Self-guided
  • We'll show you how to run the scan; you complete it yourself with a quick profile setup.
  • Wear tighter-fitting clothing so the device accurately captures your body.
  • Put your hair up for a more accurate neck measurement.
  • The scan itself takes about 30 seconds; allow 15–30 minutes total with setup.
  • Your report is emailed directly to you; we don't review it with you in person.
